We recently became TalkTalk ambassadors and as part of the package we received a YouView+ box which provides us with 70+ Freeview channels, On Demand TV, selected Sky channels and an extensive library of movies to rent as well as the ability to add TV Boosts by subscription, which include Sky Movies, Sky Sports and premium entertainment channels . Never again will I hear cries of "There's nothing on tv!" from the children (or hubby!)
When we moved house last year we stopped our Sky subscription so I was pleased to get Sky 1 & 2 back, along with Sky Living & Livingit, Sky Atlantic and Sky Arts 1 & 2.
The On Demand players include BBCiPlayer, ITV Player, 4OD, Demand 5, Milkshake, UKTV (Dave, Really, Yesterday)
The search facilities on the YouView+ box are great. You can search by name or genre and for films you can even search by name of actor or director. It's very easy to find the programme/film you want.
Rented films are clearly priced and there's an option to rent in HD (dependent on broadband speed). There's no chance of anyone in the house running up a massive bill as a pin code is needed for each purchase. Films are available for 48 hours from the time of purchase and some new releases are available the same day as they're released on DVD. I liked the fact that it's not just new films available, a lot of the older films and classics are there too.
Recording is easy and I love the series record function. The YouView+ box has a massive capacity of up to 300GB, which equates to 185 standard hours of standard definition tv so you can record a lot of series before needing to delete anything.
Of course there's also live TV pause and rewind which is a fabulous feature as any parent who regularly gets interrupted by their child will know! Another handy feature is within On Demand; it remembers where you are within a programme so you can resume straight away without having to recall which bit you'd got to before you turned it off. In the past we've had On Demand players and it's not the end of the world but it is irritating having to search through a programme.
There's so much on there that I'm sure there are parts we haven't even discovered yet!
