Good Friday Fun

The first day of the school holiday also happened to be Good Friday, hubby's birthday and the only day of the Easter weekend with sun forecast so we headed off to Bury St Edmunds as we'd not been back there for a few years.

First stop was Nowton Park for a walk amongst the gorgeous daffodils and an Easter trail. The trail was a short one, thank goodness, as the children argued over who was holding the trail sheet and writing answers! Sadly the children didn't get chance to pick up their prizes as the cafe queue was too long and our car park ticket was running out.

Looking for a troll?

We then drove into the town to grab a bite to eat for lunch and then we went to Moyses Hall Museum for their Brick City Lego exhibition. It's quite a small museum but it jam-packed full of interesting artefacts. We were very impressed with the Lego models which included St Pancras Station, Olympic Park, Paris landmarks, the Lincoln Memorial and the Abbey Gate (which is where hubby & I first met.) The last time we visited the museum they had an amazing Doctor Who exhibition. There were some fabulous cosplayers and the Tenth Doctor was so convincing that Charlie thought he had met David Tennant!

The Doctor has a couple of new companions!

Next we wandered down to the Abbey Gardens, which was one of my favourite places when I lived in Bury St Edmunds. I would spend many a happy lunch hour there in the summer, soaking up the sun and enjoying the peace.

They loved watching this squirrel bury his nuts
There were a couple of Easter trails throughout the park so we bought a sheet (which they happily shared this time!) and spent a pleasant hour walking around the park and Abbey ruins searching for letters on trees before getting their prizes. Harry chose bubbles and had great fun blowing them towards us and hoping we got wet as they popped!

The children were getting very tired so after tucking in to a lovely dinner we travelled home and the children asked to go to bed early. What a result!

  2. always a sign of a good day out when they opt to go to bed early! You did manage to pack a lot in though. I love the daffodils at Nowton Park, it looked really spring like there, I almost felt sorry for the kids not having time for their prizes butt his was more than made up for with all the lovely things that followed. The museum looks full of interesting things and how wonderful to trace some of your old haunts in the Abbey gardens and another trail and this time a prize. A refreshing change for it not to be chocolate too. I may look into this next year after a chocolate feast for our Coombe Mill hunt again this year. Thank you for sharing your action packed day with me on #CountryKids
