Another day out, another walking trail! This one was in beautiful Bury St Edmunds. It's the only place I truly miss living in. I used to spend many a happy summer lunchtime sitting in the Abbey Gardens and it's also where I met hubby. I have many fond memories of the town.
It was a cloudy and cool day-perfect weather for pounding the streets looking for decorated bollards. There are two trails running this summer; the Magna Carta trail and the nature-themed Lark & Linnet bollard trail. We went with the latter although we probably could have done both if we'd felt up to walking a little further as we spotted a number of the Magna Carta signs along the way.
The cathedral overlooking the fragrant rose garden.
Yes, we even have a clipboard now as we take part in so many trails. It's serious stuff!
The biggest concentration of bollards were in the Abbey Gardens so we spent quite a while in here; on the play area, looking at the birds in the small aviary, wandering around the rose garden and the abbey ruins, soaking up the sun and checking out this brilliantly decorated tree:
This was probably the first trail that we have ever done where we haven't discovered any new places but we still enjoyed walking around the town and it was good exercise for us all!
Abbey Gate-where I met hubby.
These free self-guided trails are running until 12th November 2016 and forms can be downloaded from ourburystedmunds/trails or picked up from the Cathedral TIC or Moyse's Hall.

What a great idea for getting people interested in their local town :)
ReplyDeleteThere seem to be a lot of trails around here and they're great fun. I don't know if other parts of the country have them.
DeleteThe trails do encourage walking and exploring. Like the idea of a nature walk around a town. Lovely to revisit a place that holds such wonderful memories for you both. #CountryKids
ReplyDeleteit was a lovely day out and a good excuse to walk further than we usually would!
DeleteThese trails seem like such a fab way to get locals and tourists exploring the town and visiting different parts. You guys always manage to find the best trails to take part in and I love that you've now got a clipboard to keep your trails in order! It's a shame you didn't realise how close the two trails were going to be but at least it will give you the opportunity to go back and take part in the other one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up with me on #CountryKids.
The other one is on until mid-November so hopefully when we're free one weekend we'll head there and do that one too.
DeleteThe trails look great fun and I think that tree will be warm and cosy this winter. #CountryKids
ReplyDeleteIt's brilliant, isn't it? My daughter now wants to cover up the tree in our front garden!
DeleteLoving the colours! And what a perfect weather to visit such a pretty place! #countrykids
ReplyDeleteIt is one of the prettiest towns in Suffolk. Just beautiful.
DeleteI love trails! And the idea of having one around town particularly - a great way to discover some new places, or revisit ones you love. What special memories you must have here! I do love that tree :-) #countrykids
ReplyDeleteIt's brilliant. My daughter now wants us to decorate the one in our front garden!
DeleteA clipboard, huh?! You guys are serious!;))
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful colours and I really like the decorated tree, all those flags - very post-Olympics!
#CountryKids
Oh yes, we take it very seriously now!! It saves trying to lean up against walls ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe tree was brilliant. My daughter wants us to decorate the one in our front garden after seeing that one. Not sure what the neighbours would think!!
