Another day out, another walking trail! This one was in beautiful Bury St Edmunds. It's the only place I truly miss living in. I used to spend many a happy summer lunchtime sitting in the Abbey Gardens and it's also where I met hubby. I have many fond memories of the town.
It was a cloudy and cool day-perfect weather for pounding the streets looking for decorated bollards. There are two trails running this summer; the Magna Carta trail and the nature-themed Lark & Linnet bollard trail. We went with the latter although we probably could have done both if we'd felt up to walking a little further as we spotted a number of the Magna Carta signs along the way.

The biggest concentration of bollards were in the Abbey Gardens so we spent quite a while in here; on the play area, looking at the birds in the small aviary, wandering around the rose garden and the abbey ruins, soaking up the sun and checking out this brilliantly decorated tree:
This was probably the first trail that we have ever done where we haven't discovered any new places but we still enjoyed walking around the town and it was good exercise for us all!

These free self-guided trails are running until 12th November 2016 and forms can be downloaded from ourburystedmunds/trails or picked up from the Cathedral TIC or Moyse's Hall.

DeleteThese trails seem like such a fab way to get locals and tourists exploring the town and visiting different parts. You guys always manage to find the best trails to take part in and I love that you've now got a clipboard to keep your trails in order! It's a shame you didn't realise how close the two trails were going to be but at least it will give you the opportunity to go back and take part in the other one.
