We hadn't had a holiday in a couple of years so this year hubby asked his parents if we could stay in their tent in their garden. I haven't camped since I was a child and I hated every single minute of it but this wasn't as bad as that. We had use of their shower and toilet and it wasn't too cold thankfully! This is Harry half an hour after arriving. He put Roary to bed for a nap as he was apparently tired after a long journey (1.5 hours!) and he sat with him playing on his tab. He loved staying in the tent and thought it was a great adventure and he can't wait to do it again.
On Sunday we went to Maldon Promenade Park for the play area, riverside walk and splash park. We got there early and booked for the children to go on the splash park at 2pm. At 1.50pm they ran out of water! The children were devastated but Harry was soon distracted by the pedalos at the other end of the park and had a great time on the boating pond. When it was time to come in he went to 'reverse park' his boat while the other children struggled to get back. It was so funny to watch.
I was determined to fit in a trip to Ickworth House this week as we haven't been in about 4 years and it's one of my favourite places in Suffolk. Before Molly & I went into the house we took a walk around the park and the trim trail. The children tried each activity out as best as they could. Harry was meant to be doing sit ups here but he just lay back and relaxed instead. I don't blame him!
We did a beehive trail in Colchester Castle Park and the children wanted to go on the boating lake. There were pedal swans which looked like really hard work so we persuaded them to go on the little pedalo boats instead. Charlie was going around at 100mph whereas Harry just glided around…and Molly mostly got to rest.
Another day, another trail. This time the Lark & Linnet bollard trail in Bury St Edmunds. It took us to another of my favourite places in Suffolk-Abbey Gardens and in particular the rose garden with the cathedral in the background. Most of the roses had passed their best but the aroma was wonderful.
Our last day of our holiday and yet another trail! Walking around Ipswich we hunted down 24 of the 39 pig sculptures currently on display for pigs Gone Wild. There are some amazing designs but Piggy Stardust is my favourite.
We cut our holiday short by a day as I booked tickets for hubby to see The Nimmo Twins at Norwich Theatre Royal. We'd missed out on tickets in 2014 and this was another sell out run so we were lucky to get hold of tickets. The Nimmo Twins are Karl Minns and Owen Wilson and they take the piss out of Norfolk and it's folk. It was hilarious and had me in tears.
I went outside to check our plants as we've really been struggling to grow anything this year and was really pleased to see that Harry's Heart's Ease flowers have finally come out. They're the logo of his SRB school and we bought the seeds to help settle him in. He's currently away with my Mum until Monday evening but I'm sure he'll be really happy to see them. I just have to hope I don't kill them off in the meantime!
How lovely to get a holiday, and the tent would not be my idea of fun either but I would do it as well to get a break away.
