Norfolk Tank Museum

This weekend has seen hundreds of venues opening their doors for Heritage Open Days . Today we decided to visit Norfolk Tank Museum after reading rave reviews on TripAdvisor.

Charlie loves all things to do with the military so we knew it would be a hit with him but we weren't so sure about the other two.

We arrived and the children spotted the anti-aircraft gun in the field and spent a few minutes climbing about on that and they were delighted to find that they could move it around!

They had a quick play on the play area and watched the BV tracked vehicle taking families on a rather bumpy ride and then we headed into the main part of the museum. Inside and out there's a range of armoured vehicles, some of which you can climb on and into-the children didn't need telling twice! It's so rare to find a museum which encourages such hands-on involvement.

There is also a selection of army kit to dress up in and a small, but hugely interesting display on Norwich and Norfolk during the war and a collection of military. I was really impressed with the massive soldier made from thousands of toy soldiers.

After lunch we paid for a ride on the tracked vehicle. You definitely need to make sure you've got your seatbelt on for this! It was an exhilarating experience and although the driver had been doing the rounds all day you could tell he was enjoying it, especially all the squeals from the children (and me!)

Every member of the volunteer staff we encountered was friendly and extremely helpful and knowledgable. You could tell that they're passionate about what they do.

Each of the children thoroughly enjoyed our trip there and have asked when we can go back again. If you're in the area it's definitely worth a look.
