Henry Blogg Museum, Cromer

It was another sunny day so after work I picked the children & hubby up from the cinema and we headed to Cromer for some fresh air and some gentle exercise.

We walked through the town and then headed towards the beach via the Gangway. We'd walked past the RNLI Henry Blogg Museum a number of times but decided to go in today. It's a small two-storey museum but jam-packed full of artefacts and information about Henry Blogg and the role of the RNLI lifeboats in Cromer, along with his 1935-1945 lifeboat HF Bailey.

HF Bailey

'Coxswain Henry Blogg was a local man who became a national hero. The RNLI's most decorated lifeboatman served for 53 years on Cromer's lifeboats. He was awarded three Gold and four Silver RNLI medals for gallantry, as well as the George Cross and British Empire Medal.
With the assistance of his dedicated crew he saved 873 lives from the North Sea.'

As we entered the museum there were a selection of activity bags for the children with close-up photos of things to find around the museum (split into two packs, one for young children, the other for older children) and questions about particular items.

Throughout the museum there were interactive displays and Molly spent quite some time getting to grips with Morse code and the phonetic alphabet. The boys loved trying on the various lifeboat uniforms and equipment.

This is a gem of a museum right on Cromer seafront and absolutely worth a visit. We will definitely return.

Admission is free and opening times are on the website: http://www.rnli.org/aboutus/historyandheritage/museums/Pages/Henry-Blogg-Museum.aspx
