Bishop's Garden, Norwich

One of my favourite buildings in Norwich

Bishop's Garden is one of Norwich's hidden secrets. It comprises of four acres of historic formal gardens only open to the public on 12 occasions a year in aid of a range of local charities. We never got round to visiting last summer so as it was open last Sunday for the Norfolk Deaf Association and we had no plans we went into the city and spent the afternoon in the gardens.

Entry was just £3 per adult and children were free. The main lawn had a range of stalls and games for the children and a small arena where a local musician played and a gymnastics group performed.

Hubby sat down and rested his poorly back while me & the children wandered around the various gardens and stalls. Once we'd covered the gardens we both sat under the shade of the massive London Plane tree (2nd largest in Norfolk if you're interested!) while the children took part in the fun games. The atmosphere reminded me very much of the church fetes I used to attend and loved as a child.

"I want to be something scary"

Harry loved the small woodland walk, complete with the awesome Bishop's Bug Hotel. There was a very popular tree swing by Bishop Reynold's Chapel and Harry couldn't resist a bit of tree climbing.

The gardens were absolutely beautiful. The smell as we walked through the rose garden was so intoxicating.

On our way out we went via the Jungle Garden and then the children got themselves lost in the wild grass labyrinth!

It's a gorgeous place to while away the hours and it's hard to believe that you're in a busy city centre. If you're in Norwich on one of the Open Days I can thoroughly recommend a visit.
