Last week we popped to Wroxham for a couple of hours and decided that we'd hire a boat for a couple of hours at some point this year and with Molly's birthday coming up she said it was something she'd really like to do.
It's a big step for me as I'm petrified of water, particularly when my children are near to it, but I thought I'dd try to overcome my fears especially now that Harry is a little older and more sensible. What am I saying?! Harry will NEVER be sensible!
Downloading a voucher from the Broads Tours website and heading off really early we were the first there. We were kitted out with lifejackets and Hubby was shown what to do and then we were off.
We passed some beautiful waterside homes and suffered a great deal of boat envy as we drooled over some of the gorgeous craft moored by the properties. There's something so tranquil and relaxing about being by the river and I would love to own a riverside weekend/holiday home.
Seeing some of the sail boats on the Broad was very reminiscent of 'Swallows and Amazons' for me. The children had no idea what I was talking about so that's another film from my childhood that they need to see!
The children were really well behaved and I only had to remind Harry to sit down a couple of times. They each had a quick go at steering and Molly picked it up much quicker than Hubby had done. Charlie was all over the place though. Thankfully he only steered when there weren't any other boats around!
There was lots to see and enjoy and the children loved getting close to the swans, ducks and geese. With the voucher it was only £26 for 2 hour's hire and we'd definitely do it again.

I loved swallows and amazons as a kid. My son is now reading the books. It looks like you had a great day out
ReplyDeleteNow this looks like a water adventure I would love. Plenty to see and not to much wave action to make you feel ill. It sounds at bargain and swans to watch gliding past you too. A wonderful way to enjoy a family day out. We did something similar in the Fowey estuary a few weeks ago and also vowed to do it again.
