Blustery Brancaster Beach

After hubby and I took a trip to Brancaster beach the previous weekend we decided to head back a week later and take the children with us, convinced they'd love walking along the edge of the sea and finding lots of creatures and plant life as we had. We also hoped to go digging for razor clams but we were unsuccessful.

When we arrived at the car park we found it almost deserted compared to last weekend, the reason being that it was much, much colder! We'd checked the weather forecast before leaving home but it was clearly wrong. It really wasn't beach weather and it was rather windy.

We strolled off determined to have fun but the sand was whipping up and stinging our legs and the boys hated it so we didn't stay long.

Making the letter 'B' with some seaweed-covered rope stuck in the sand.

After finding out about the beach's past use for RAF target practise during wartime the boys were adamant that these holes were caused by bullets rather than by nature.

Harry spotted this tiny crab burrowing into a razor clam hole. There's nothing wrong with his eyesight!

As you can see with the tide out the sand goes on for miles. There were a number of people walking in the sand towards the sea (way beyond the left hand side of the photo) but after our encounter with a fast incoming tide last week we stayed well away!

In the distance is the wreck of the SS Vina (another wartime target) and Scolt Head Island.

It wasn't our most successful excursion this summer but we still managed to get out in the fresh air and get some exercise.
