Coastal Calm

Sometimes you just need to break away from the daily grind and get away for a few hours to recharge your batteries, refresh your mind and forget about whatever is stressing you, even if just for a short while. That's what I did today.

The last few days have been dreadful and I could feel myself losing control so with the sun shining and the temperatures due to hit 30 I went to the coast.  I don't know what it is about water but I always feel calm by the sea or riverside.

As soon as I got out of the car I could smell the fresh, invigorating sea air and knew I'd made a good choice.

I grabbed a book and took myself to Cromer beach. I planned to read for a couple of hours while topping up my vitamin D, especially with Autumn approaching, but instead I sat there engrossed in people-watching.

A rather appropriately titled book!
There was a young family on holiday spending the day on the beach, retired couples walking hand in hand in the sun, swimmers, surfers, kayakers, grandparents looking after toddler grandchildren while their parents worked, an artist, recreational sailors and fishermen.

It was absolute bliss sitting there just watching and much-needed. We're so lucky living just half an hour from the beautiful North Norfolk coast but I wish I could visit every day in the summer. There's a gorgeous house for sale right on the promenade that I would love to buy.....but it's over £1 million!

This one kept his beady eye on me for far longer than was comfortable!
I went under the pier for a change. It's a fabulous Victorian structure and epitomises the great British seaside.

I came away calm, refreshed and much happier about life and feeling much less stressed. The quote below sums it up nicely.

What do you do when you need a break from it all?
