Wandering around Wroxham & Hoveton

I had been through 7 weeks of recovering from my hip replacement and not going far from home so I was itching to get out. On a sunny Sunday we headed to Wroxham & Hoveton on the Norfolk Broads as we knew of a short walk on fairly solid ground, one that I could cope with as I still needed a walking stick for support.

We took some bread for the children to feed the ducks but there were many more swans than ducks. They loved getting up close to them and we've never seen so many in one place. They're such beautiful serene creatures.

After feeding the swans up we walked through the small riverside park and Harry had a little chat with a couple of the locals!

The family left me hobbling along on my own while they steamed off at a great pace! It gave me a chance to take in my surroundings though and enjoy the gorgeous blue sky and the stillness of the water. We encountered just one boat and a paddle boarder on the broads. A big difference from our last visit to Wroxham in the summer.

Harry was adamant that this photo of the sky was upside down.

Listening intently to Daddy...for once! I think he was pointing out a bonfire that we could see on the land opposite. It looks like an island from where we stood and the boys wondered if pirates lived there!

Such a cheeky grin. You just know he's up to something....

The eldest two had been arguing a lot recently, I forget how tough things have been for them lately,
so it was lovely to see them walking together and chatting nicely the whole time we were out.

I felt a little left behind at times as they were all faster than me but it was rather touching watching them all from behind, enjoying each other's company and getting along.

After walking back into the village we had a quick look around for somewhere to eat lunch. The cafe & McDonald's in Roy's of Wroxham department store were both busy so we went down the road to the one chip shop that was open. It was such a mild day that we were able to sit on a bench to eat our food. Hard to believe that it was February 5th!

We didn't walk far but it was great to be out in the sunshine and taking in some fresh air. My walking ability has improved week on week and I'm now walking without support, and more importantly without any pain. I'm really looking looking forward to getting outdoors more often and taking part in those long country walks we have all missed.

  1. So pleased you are up to being out and about wit the family and this looks like a perfect walk combining flat walking for you and beautiful countryside scenes. Isn't it funny how the kids can argue at home and then be united over a walk. It is just the same in our house, getting them out is th isue, then thy make the most of it and admit they had a great time. chips outdoors in February sounds a real treat.
