After a very long break I am delighted to be hosting Ten on Tuesday-this time with the lovely Davina Bamber who I met on the school run.
1. Who are you and what do
you do?
I'm
known by a number of names! Davina, Dee and Mummy - I answer to them all. I worked in the motor trade for just
over 10 years using all of my natural skills (and some taught ones) to sell
cars. I have since spent the past
4 years bringing up my 2 daughters (and looking after my 1 husband) but now
that they are at school and nursery I am back to thinking just that little bit
more about me. Davina Bamber Business
Support naturally evolved as we had a kitchen extension done on our house. I gradually started helping my builder
coordinate more of the project - I am a natural organiser. I then responded to an advert for a
lady helping her to set up her own business and soon realised that there was
the potential for me to really make a go of this. I offer a wide range of support to individuals and small to
medium sized businesses bringing know-how and manpower for as little or as long
as needed. I work from home or can
also travel to site. Work carried out so far has included anything from basic
support in the form of branded workwear and business cards, CVs and covering
letters, all the way through to more intensive requirements such as social
media account management, bookkeeping and sales lead generation. There are
people out there that perhaps offer one or two of those, but there aren't many
that have the flexibility to offer all of them.
2. Do you have a claim to
fame?
Not
sure it's much of a claim to fame but being the sociable person I am I once got
talking to a man whilst we were waiting outside a football stadium. We were just having a general chat
about football and the match ahead.
I was just about to give him my opinions on a certain well known
footballer at the time but his friend came along so our little chat
stopped. As I was stood by myself
I could hear their conversation about Christmas and his friend asked him what
he was doing. His reply was "we've
got David and Victoria coming on Boxing Day". I knew I had recognised this man from somewhere but only
then did the penny drop that it was David Beckham's dad. Thank goodness his friend came along to
stop me giving my opinion on his son to him!
3. What was the last film
you watched? Would you recommend
it?
Having
two young children we rarely get to go to the cinema unless it is a film of the
animated variety. However, myself
and my husband did have a rare night to ourselves and he persuaded me to go to
see Stephen King's IT. I'm not
sure if I can say I watched it as I spent most of the film with my eyes closed
so that it didn't scare me. So
would I recommend it? It sounded
good!
4. Describe yourself in 5
words.
Organised,
trustworthy, happy, direct, committed.
5. What item would you be
lost without?
Unfortunately
I have to say my mobile phone. I
use it for work, updating my clients' social media platforms, liasing with
various trades, emails, everything!
I also use it to take photos of my children and send to my husband when
he is at work, and to send my husband messages about 'his' children when they
have been naughty! When I got my
first mobile phone at 16 it had a pull out antennae and flip down voice
flap. I was amazed at being able
to send a SMS message. It's
remarkable how much they have progressed in the last 20 years. Although I would be lost without it I
have learnt to appreciate time with my mobile turned off too.
6. Which song brightens
your day?
It's
got to be "Best Day of My Life" by American Authors, better known as
the Center Parcs advert song. We
have had some great family holidays at Center Parcs and always play the song as
we are approaching the entrance.
It really brings home the importance of spending time together as a
family and taking some time out from everyday life.
7. What advice would you
give your 16 year old self?
It
would probably be the same advice that I gave to myself at the end of last year
- to have more self-belief. When I
look back at my career I should have pushed myself into more challenging
situations sooner to really progress.
I now feel that I have that opportunity again and this time I've just
got to believe in myself as everyone else seems to believe in me!
8. Who/what makes you
laugh?
Without
doubt my husband and my children.
I like to think that we have a happy home. My eldest daughter is a born entertainer (not sure where she
gets it from as myself and my husband were quite shy as youngsters) and is
always putting on a show. My
youngest daughter is the cutest little girl (obviously I am biased) and makes
me smile every day with her little mannerisms. My husband has a great sense of humour and quick wit. All in all, there is a lot of laughter
in our house.
9. What was the last book
you bought?
I
can't actually remember the last time I bought a book for myself but my husband
bought me a book last year that I took on holiday with me. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
was such a page turner and totally had me gripped. It was turned into a film and I couldn't wait to see it but
I was so disappointed, maybe because I had enjoyed the book so much and I
didn't feel that the film did it justice.
10. Where do you see
yourself in 5 years time?
My
goodness, what a question. In 5
years time I will be 41 years old and my children will be 13 and 8 (is 13 too young
to be classed as a reliable babysitter!).
I would like to think that my business has gone from strength to
strength and that I would have a strong base of satisfied clients (there's my
self-belief). I would also like to
hope that my husband has finally got round to decorating our bedroom so that I
can sleep in a nice light and airy bedroom rather than the dull dismal one we
have now - that may be wishful thinking though! I would just like to be as happy as I am now.
