Merrivale Model Village

It has been a number of years since we last visited the model village in Great Yarmouth so when I saw a facebook post about their special pre-season preview with entry at just £1 per person it was the perfect excuse to go.

We arrived soon after opening and there was already a long queue (which we had anticipated) but despite only one lady serving we were soon through.

Clockwise from top left: Village cricket, Merrivale Mansion (my favourite), house on fire (the children were  impressed with the smoke effects), hospital and the shotgun wedding!

The children loved looking around and spotting all sorts going on within the village scenes. There's often something amusing happening if you look carefully. Hubby wondered out loud why there was a man holding a shotgun at a wedding (with a heavily-pregnant bride)….. that became an interesting conversation with the children!

A number of displays have changed since we last visited-new this year is the Great Yarmouth Eye and X-Factor  stage- so it was good to see it looking refreshed. The landscaped gardens are beautiful and the pond is full of koi carp, which Harry loved watching.

Clockwise from top: Vauxhall Holiday Camp, Fun fair, Abbey (complete with singing nuns), X-Factor stage, the real Great Yarmouth Eye in the distance

After walking around the village you come to the Old Penny Arcade where you can buy 15 old pennies for £1 for some fun on the vintage arcade machines. I must take my Dad there one day as he used to buy old machines and fix them up for selling on. He'd be in his element!

  2. I do love a model village and this one looks amazing. What a bargain for a pound entry I would definitely have gone too. Always good to return somewhere and see the changes what fun to have the X factor their and some really iconic places too. Looks like a lovely dry day for your visit and a great recommendation of somewhere to go. Thank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids
