Bugs in the Kitchen *review*

We love spending time together playing board games as a family but it can be difficult finding one that suits us all, especially as 6 year old Harry still has a rather short attention span. With a game playing time of approximately 20 minutes we hoped Bugs in the Kitchen from Ravensburger would work well.

Clicking the cutlery game pieces into place.

Simple, easy to follow instructions are always a plus!

The aim of the game is to turn the cutlery pieces to get the pesky limited edition Hexbug Nano (supplied with the game) through to your part of the kitchen. Rolling the dice gives you the option of changing the direction of a spoon, fork, knife or any piece you choose, in the hope it sends the Hexbug your way. When it lands in your pit you win a token. The first player to 5 tokens wins the game.

You can play strategically to block your opponents route or turn random pieces and just hope for the best! Very often the Hexbug catches you out by scuttling off in the opposite direction to which you expected it to go.

It's a really fun, easy to play game that can be quite frantic the more players you add in to the mix. If you play with just 2 or 3 players the unused pits can be barricaded off. With 2 players the average game  for one token lasted about 1 minute so it can be over quite quickly. With 4 players we found it is more fast-paced as you're fighting to beat more opponents.

The game board is kept within the box so once you've clicked your cutlery pieces into place before the first game it takes a matter of seconds to set up for a new game. The instructions and rules are simple to follow and have clear pictures of a few starting positions.

Harry often gets this out to play with his siblings or friends and they don't need any adult assistance but most times I'll step in and play as well as it's so much fun!

Bugs in the Kitchen won the Toys Testers TV Gold Award-voted as the 'Most Fun Toy 2014' by children aged 4-15 years old. The Toy Testers loved Bugs in the kitchen so much that it was awarded a second Gold A in the Games category in 2014. It is also the winner of the Dad's Choice Award for 2015.

The RRP is £24.99 and can be bought from Argos and other toy retailers

Check out the Ravensburger website for more great puzzles and games.
