The forecast for Sunday was for a very hot & sunny morning with cloud cover in the afternoon. I was still struggling to cope in bright sunlight with my injured eye so we went to Waterloo Park in the morning and I sat in the shade of the trees while the boys played in the splash park. I was quite jealous as it looked so refreshing but I just couldn't face walking into sunlight.
They spent an hour in the water before we enjoyed a picnic lunch and then they played on the rest of the play area.
After Waterloo Park we drive to Cromer for a walk. We usually get to the pier and head west but for a change we decided to head east. As we walked onto the beach we saw a number of men running towards the lifeboat house on the pier and we waited and watched as the boys have always wanted to see the boat launch. We waited and waited but nothing happened. They were disappointed but I have to say I was rather relieved to find out that the callout had been cancelled as I hate the thought of anyone in danger at sea.
Charlie 'dabbing' apparently.
The water was so warm that we couldn't resist a paddle in the sea. I told them to go ankle deep only as we didn't have any spare clothing or towels but Harry's shorts were soon soaking wet!
It was low tide so the boys had a great time rooting around in the rock pools. We've been rock pooling a few times before but we've rarely found many creatures but on this walk we found all sorts.
Charlie walked right over a jellyfish not knowing what it was. We soon educated him!
Hubby and I were rather excited to come across a real life shipwreck-the Fernebo which was wrecked in 1917. The boys didn't share our enthusiasm but they'd found lots of 'holes' in the beach. We later found out that they are razor clam shows and the boys want to go digging for them next time we go to the beach.
We walked for what felt like miles and we all had a great time. We found lots of new and interesting things and it was rather educational. Harry was full of some fantastic questions about what we saw-which me and Hubby were unable to answer but Google soon assisted us!
On the way back we went via the promenade and as we went past the beach huts we picked out our favourites as we usually do when we're at the coast. I loved 'Dunravin' and the boys' favourite was this hut brightly decorated with lots of creatures. I'd love to own a beach hut, perhaps when I'm retired, and I'd love to be able to come up with a witty name. If you had a beach hut what would you call yours?
It was late evening by the time we got home but we'd had a fabulous day. The boys had been perfectly behaved and had thoroughly enjoyed what we'd done (and they slept well that night!) I wish that every summer day could be like this…….
Ah, memories of Norfolk holidays. We've been to Cromer quite a few times now and our Summer Holiday this year is to Sandringham Caravan Club Site. I love beach huts. I've always wanted one that I could decorate inside. There was a great makeover of a beach hut on George Clarke's amazing spaces once and it made me wish we had one! #Countrykids
ReplyDeleteI had to do a double take on your first photo, we have the same play pirate boat at Coombe Mill. I would love to add those water sprinklers in front, they look great fun on a hot day. I don't know the Norfolk coast well at all but it does look different to Cornwall. I rarely see razor shells here and those rock pools are teaming with life. Like you I'd be excited by the shipwreck. Looks like a great day out all round.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids
