Trying to Obtain a Positive Mental Attitude

I am, and have always been, a Moaning Minnie. I am trying to change that around. After 40 years of hearing my constant whinging (and telling the children off for doing the same!) I decided that enough was enough.

It's not easy to overhaul your personality and way of thinking and it certainly can't happen overnight so instead I'm trying to turn things around by finding the positive in things, particularly on what seems to be a bad day. They may be small things but hopefully they all add up to a brighter picture.

I learnt to drive just three years ago and until then I walked everywhere, no matter what the weather or how far. With 3 young children it meant I spent my life outdoors taking them from one place to another. In the last year though that has changed drastically and I have become dependent on my car. My hip dysplasia has degenerated so much that I struggle to walk far and when I do it is constantly painful. There is light at the end of the tunnel though as I'm on the waiting list for a hip replacement.

Because of this I dread losing the car when it goes into the garage. Hubby took the day off work as I just couldn't face the walk to and from the garage. It was just going to be a day of being stuck at home doing chores, much like any other day, but as me & Hubby rarely spend any time together I suggested we went out for lunch together. No children, no squabbling at the table, just lunch in peace.

I needed to go to the bank so we wandered into the village and did that before heading to the Red Lion carvery. As much as I love my roast dinners having it cooked by someone else is the best. I wasn't disappointed-it was incredible!

After that we started walking towards home when Hubby got a call to say that the car would be ready within the next hour so he left me at Marriott's Way while he carried on to the garage. I wasn't relishing a muddy walk home alone, particularly as it started raining but I took it at a slow pace and stopped occasionally to take in my surroundings and take a few photos.

It was a rather lovely walk, despite being in pain, and there were lots of lovely autumnal colours about and I spotted a couple of squirrels and a couple of ponies too. I wished the children had been with me as I know they'd have enjoyed it too. I even took a detour past the pond and found a shortcut home!

I was close to tears when I got home and almost collapsed on the sofa when I got in but I really did enjoy the walk and the chance to be outdoors in the fresh air enjoying my own company and just the sound of the birds. It's something I won't be able to do so often in a few months time while I recover from my op so I need to make the most of it now.
