February Reading

I've been a lot slower with my reading this month and I put it down to being able to get about more and not being so inclined to have an early night.

I also started the month reading a book that I was really struggling with. I felt that it was such a slow plod but I felt obligated to read it as it was a present from my Mum. Mum picked up Nomad by Alan Partridge for me 'as he's a local lad and grew up close to where you now live'. I honestly believe that she thinks Alan Partridge is real, bless her!

Nomad sees Alan recreating a walk his father took many years before from Norfolk to Dungeness. I expected a chuckle or two but it barely raised a smile. The constant use of footnotes became an irritation as I like my reading experience to be a smooth one. I hate having to flick up and down a page.

I have bought so many books recently and I already have a number of books that I've bought over the years but never picked up so I've decided that from now on I'll alternately read a kindle book then a paper book so that I can work my way through my 'to be read' piles.

I've heard many positive things about The Boy Made Of Blocks by Keith Stuart so when I saw that it was on offer I couldn't resist adding it to my kindle. Described as the most uplifting novel of the year it tells the story of Alex who is trying to bond with his autistic son, while trying to show his wife that he does love her.

I'm not far into the book yet and the characters are only now starting to flesh out but so far I am enjoying it. I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens to the family.

Do you have any recommendations from your 2017 reads?
