Another sunny afternoon, another trip to the park after school. It's so handy having the park so close, especially as our garden is so small and the neighbours must get pissed off with the amount of balls that end up in their garden!
On Saturday I had something in my eye. By Tuesday I needed an eye patch and had an appointment at the eye clinic for Wednesday morning. It turns out I had a large corneal abrasion and I've spent all week applying eye drops and ointment. The pain has gone at last but I'm still struggling in sunlight and my vision is rather blurry. I'm at the hospital for a check-up tomorrow and will hopefully be able to drive again!
I walked to meet Molly after she cycled to see a friend home safely and as we cut through the estate we found 3 patches of wildflowers. They're so pretty and I'd love a wildflower patch in my garden. (The photo is really blurry as I couldn't see clearly!)
We started our 5 Minute Fun activities from https://www.5minutefun.com (review to follow)
For today's activity Harry had to be a chick hatching from an egg.
Our Norfolk Museum Pass is running out soon and we can't yet afford to replace it so we're trying to cram in as many museum visits as possible. We'd never been to Stranger's Hall before even though it's located right in Norwich city centre. It's a beautiful building, very higgledy piggledy as many additions have been made over hundreds of years and the garden was lovely, especially the Knot Garden. The view was far better from upstairs but I forgot to take a photo! We arrived as they were putting out the traditional garden games and the children had fantastic fun playing skittles, croquet, hoopla, dominoes and riding on hobby horses while I soaked up the rays in the garden.
Saturday was what we call a 'bitty day' as we didn't have much time to do anything because we were waiting in for Molly to get picked up for a weekend away and Harry had a party to go to in the afternoon. It seemed a shame to stay in though so after lunch we spent an hour nearby Costessey Park so the boys could play football (Dad included until he fell arse over tit!!)
The children had been asking to go to the splash park in Waterloo Park ever since we last took a trip there but it was too chilly so on Sunday with the temperature in the high 20s we packed a picnic and I sat in the shade of a tree reading my book while they cooled off.
Every summer holiday when we've got a few consecutive warm days the children camp out in the garden so we got the tent out today for the boys to sleep in while their sister is away. Harry lasted until about 10pm when he decided he was too scared to be in the dark but Charlie managed to sleep in there alone until 5.30am this morning. They're back out there again tonight with Harry saying he's feeling much braver about the dark-but their light has just broken. I give it another 5 minutes!
Although it was a beautiful day outside Charlie asked if we could go to Norwich Castle this morning for the Medieval Madness activities. We had to get back soon after lunch as we were meeting friends at the park but we had a thoroughly enjoyable 1.5 hours there taking part in shield making, bridge building, a medieval trail, trying on costumes, checking out the art exhibition and playing Nine Men's Morris….and a family favourite since I was a child-watching coins falling down the 41m deep well. There's always something different to see at the Castle and the children love all of the activities they have on during school holidays.
